Pro filter shows icons that are not strictly Pro-only

Description

When using the "Pro" filter on fontawesome.com, the results are not limited to strictly Pro-only icons. Icons that appear to be Free (or not consistently marked as Pro) are also shown.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Go to https://fontawesome.com/icons
2. Search for "pause"
3. Select the "Pro" filter

Expected Behavior

Only Pro-only icons should be displayed when the Pro filter is applied.

Actual Behavior

The results include icons that appear to be Free or mixed with Pro, making the filter unreliable.

Environment

• Browser: Chrome
• OS: Windows 11

I could not find documentation confirming whether this behavior is intended. If it is expected, it might be helpful to clarify it in the UI for user, as the filter name suggests Pro-only results.

Thanks for the report, @skudale11. That filter is working as designed, but I can understand why it might be confusing. In short, the filter shows what is included in Pro-level plans (even if an icon is also available in Free). The pause icon, for example, is both in our Free collection AND our Pro collection. It seems like it would be confusing to hide that icon when the Pro filter is selected?

The confusion for me was interpreting the “Pro” filter as “Pro-only,” rather than “included in Pro plans.” A small tool tip might help, but I understand this behavior is intentional. Thanks for explaining.

Hi! I’d like to work on adding a tooltip or UI clarification for the Pro filter if that’s okay.

Upon further reflection, I'm not sure what the best tooltips would be. Because while it's true the "Pro" filter only returns icons included in a Pro plan, the same is not true for the Pro+ filter, which only returns Pro+ icons. (A Pro+ plan includes access to BOTH Pro and Pro+ icons). I lean towards leaving as-is, unless there are better suggestions.
