Hi! This usually happens when a previous application is still “pending” in GitHub Education, even if you can’t see it. Since you deleted your old account, the system might take some time to recognize that your academic email is now on a new account. What to do: Wait 24–48 hours and try applying again. Hi everyone,
I’m trying to apply for GitHub Education (Student benefits / Student Developer Pack), but I’m stuck in a loop where GitHub says I already have a pending request, yet I can’t see any application status anywhere.
Context
I previously had a separate GitHub account that used my university email.
Today, I deleted that old account.
I’m now using my main GitHub account @nkjapan (personal email) and trying to apply using my university email (by adding it to this account).
What happens
When I submit the application, I get this error:
There was an error creating the discount request. Errors: Discount request could not be created. Discount request errors: You have an outstanding discount request for @nkjapan. We will get back to you soon.
The confusing part
If I go to the Education benefits page, there is no application status shown (no pending/under review view, no “already submitted” message). It only shows “Submit application” again, so I can’t view/cancel/edit the “outstanding” request.
What I tried
Logging out/in
Trying in an incognito/private window
Re-checking Education benefits page vs the application submission flow
Questions
Is there any way to view the outstanding request or clear/reset it when the UI shows no status?
After deleting an old account that used the same university email, is there a delay before the Education system recognizes the new setup?
If the academic email was previously used for Education on the deleted account, does that permanently block re-applying from another account (even if the email is now added to @nkjapan)?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
